At the Greater New Braunfels Economic Development Foundation’s quarterly luncheon, City Manager Robert Camareno shared an update on the city’s 2024–2029 Strategic Plan, outlining progress on major initiatives supporting growth, connectivity, and community development.

Camareno noted that the plan serves as a roadmap for how the city allocates resources and sets priorities. He emphasized that close collaboration with the Chamber, the EDF, and private investors continues to shape New Braunfels’ balanced approach to growth.

Advancing Economic Mobility

A key focus of the plan is fostering economic mobility through redevelopment and new investment. Camareno highlighted several projects transforming central New Braunfels, including The Co-Op on Castell Avenue, The Neue on West San Antonio Street, and the ADM Mill redevelopment - each designed to create walkable, mixed-use spaces that attract both residents and visitors.

He also pointed to new workforce housing developments such as The Park at Dogwood, Eden Heights, and Apple Seeds Apartments, along with city support for New Braunfels Housing Partners to acquire land for future transitional housing. These efforts aim to improve housing access as New Braunfels approaches full buildout by 2035.

Building Connectivity and Identity

Transportation access remains central to the city’s strategy. The upcoming Ride the RIO on-demand transit service, supported by state and federal funding, will provide affordable curb-to-curb rides across the community. Additional investments include new trails, road upgrades, and pedestrian improvements.

To strengthen community identity, the city is developing an Arts and Culture Master Plan to guide creative and cultural investment. Beautification projects, including local artist-designed signal box art and expanded streetscaping, are also enhancing the city’s visual appeal.

Fiscal Stability and Partnership

Camareno closed by noting that the city’s tax rate will remain flat for FY2026 and that ongoing projects align with the community’s long-term goals. He credited partnerships between public and private sectors as essential to sustaining momentum.

The luncheon highlighted how collaboration between the City of New Braunfels, the Chamber, and the EDF continues to drive progress, positioning New Braunfels as a leader in sustainable growth and economic opportunity.
