Built in 1868, the Hinman House is one of New Braunfels’ historic treasures and a lasting reminder of the community’s early history. For more than 150 years, the home has stood as part of the story of New Braunfels, reflecting the architecture, people, and traditions that helped shape our community.
The Braunfels Foundation Trust has been proud to serve as the steward of the Hinman House for decades. The Trust acquired the property in the 1990s, with the goal of preserving this important piece of New Braunfels history for generations to come. Over the years, the house has continued to serve the community in different ways, including as a home for Communities in Schools for over 25 years.
Today, the Trust is working to restore the Hinman House and give the property a new purpose while honoring its history. Plans include creating a first-floor Visitor Center while also becoming the home for the Braunfels Foundation Trust leadership team.
Restoring a historic home comes with both opportunity and responsibility. The current restoration project includes important work to the roof, porch structure, sub-basement, landscaping and other areas of the property. The goal is not simply to repair an old building, but to preserve the character and history of the Hinman House while preparing it to serve New Braunfels for many years to come.
Supper at the Haus brings together community leaders, local businesses, donors, and friends of the Braunfels Foundation Trust for an evening celebrating the history of New Braunfels, honoring those who have helped shape our community, and investing in its future.
The evening will also continue the Trust’s long-standing tradition of Living Legends, a program that began in the early 2000s to recognize individuals who have made a lasting impact on New Braunfels through their leadership, service, and commitment to the community.
During Supper at the Haus, we will honor our 2026 Living Legends and celebrate the legacy they are helping create for New Braunfels. Bringing Living Legends together with the Hinman House creates a meaningful connection between the people who have shaped our community and the historic place we are working to preserve for future generations.
Funds raised through Supper at the Haus will support the continued restoration and preservation of the Hinman House. Together, we are celebrating where our community has been, honoring the people who have helped make it what it is today, and investing in what it can become tomorrow.
We are preserving a house, honoring our legends, and building a stronger New Braunfels today and for generations to come.
