The New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met today for their regular monthly meeting. The meeting featured a staff tenure presentation, Blue Coat of the Quarter Awards, and an update on the New Braunfels Sports Venues project by PROS Consulting.

Judy Young, Vice President – Convention & Visitors Bureau, was presented with a plaque recognizing her 20 year tenure with the Chamber. Blue Coat Chair Natalie Rougeux presented the Blue Coat of the Quarter Award to Larry Alexander. He tied with the Dolly Williams for the award but Ms. Williams was unable to attend. Rita Powell was presented with the Senior Blue Coat of the Quarter Award.

Mike Svetz with PROS Consulting delivered a presentation on the community initiative to improve and enhance New Braunfels’ recreational sports venues. Currently there are not enough athletic fields to meet the local demand and PROS Consulting has worked to create an athletic field master plan that would seek to address these needs, as well as provide the opportunity for sports tourism.

The master plan includes improvements to the Oak Run and NBISD middle schools football fields, redesign of Fredericksbug, Camp Comal, HEB and little league fields, and the construction of a new 100-acre sports complex. The first step is the renovations to the middle schools which would include the installation of artificial turf and lighting, and converting the asphalt track to an all-weather material. Completion of the middle school fields upgrades is estimated for Fall 2018.
