Building a Better Future Through Technology

A collaborative effort is underway in New Braunfels to restore a vital workforce development resource for the community. The New Braunfels Evening Lions Club, in partnership with the New Braunfels Food Bank, is working to bring back free adult computer classes that provide essential digital skills for both employment and everyday life.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, this program became the only provider of free adult computer training in Comal and Guadalupe Counties, serving nearly three dozen individuals each month. As technology continues to shape the modern workforce, access to basic digital skills is no longer optional. It is a necessity for job seekers and working professionals alike.

Addressing a Critical Need
Despite the continued demand, the program was recently paused due to outdated equipment. The existing computers, now more than 10 years old, are no longer supported and cannot meet the needs of today’s learners. This has created a gap in access to training for individuals who rely on these services to build skills, apply for jobs, and navigate daily digital tasks.

A Path Forward
To meet this need, the initiative is raising $12,000 to modernize the classroom and restore these critical services. The updated space will include new laptops for training, a secure charging and storage system, and a flexible classroom environment designed to support hands-on learning and workforce readiness.

Community Impact
Restoring this program will directly support individuals seeking to improve their employability and confidence in a technology-driven world. By equipping learners with the tools and training they need, this initiative helps strengthen the local workforce and contributes to the long-term economic vitality of the region.

A Collaborative Funding Approach
This effort is supported through a diversified funding strategy that includes grants, local business partnerships, community contributions, and dine-in fundraising events. The New Braunfels Evening Lions Club has already committed $2,000 in leadership funding, demonstrating strong local support for the project.

How You Can Help
Community support is essential to bringing these classes back online. Local businesses, organizations, and individuals are encouraged to be part of this effort by making a financial contribution, becoming a program partner, or supporting upcoming fundraising events.
