Board meeting October 2019Today’s Board of Directors meeting included an update on the S. Castell Redevelopment Project, a report from the Downtown Association, a Chair of the Board Award, and two Blue Coat Awards. Shelley Bujnoch received the Chair of the Board Award in the field of cultural promotion and understanding for her efforts in leading the HBA and the signature Dia de los Muertos Festival. Senior Blue Coat of the Quarter Joe Timmins and Blue Coat of the Quarter Debbie Meek were recognized for their dedication and efforts as Chamber ambassadors.

Andrew Douglas of Douglas Architects, Inc. provided a review of the S. Castell Redevelopment Project which includes ten acres of prime downtown realty located around the former City Hall. The visioning plan has been approved by the City of New Braunfels, which created foundational design guidelines for the future development. Upcoming activities will include creating a new zoning district, establishing a design review committee, and relocating the public works facility, but the biggest priority on the horizon is acquiring the Union Pacific rail yard. UP and the City are currently engaged in very positive discussions and working towards a solution.

President of the Downtown Association Nathan Manlove reported on the organization’s efforts to beautify and promote the downtown area. The Association has instituted a marketing campaign urging locals and visitors to “Discover the Wunder” in Downtown. This campaign includes signage, painted light posts, and beautiful floral planters. The Association held Supper on San Antonio Street this past Sunday which featured 21 tables set out in the middle of the street with dinner provided family style by downtown restaurants. Looking ahead the association is working to add way finding signs for pedestrians, extend the painted light posts and planters in a larger radius, and continue beautifying the downtown area.
